Design of a Reinforced Concrete Structure

The course objectives are as follows,

  • Teach students the structural design stages of a typical reinforced concrete (RC) building.
  • Cover the design of various components, including one-way and two-way slabs, slabs with beams, ribbed and waffle slabs, flat slabs, stairs, footings, retaining walls, and principles of seismic design.
  • Assign each student a project that involves designing a typical reinforced concrete building.
  • In this project, students will be responsible for designing slabs, stairs, beams, columns, and footings. They will analyze the building model under vertical and earthquake loads and prepare drawings for various components, including floor plans, beam and column detailing, stairs detailing, and footing plans.
